Vision, perception, illusions and bees

Dr Beau Lotto hosts Beta Tank and the Mind Chair at lottolab

Beta Tank is graciously being hosted by the lottolab headed by Dr. Beau Lotto of University College London. We have set up a small lab where we invite people to see with their skin.

The lottolab is based at Moorfields Eye Hospital and is exploring the role of perception in vision and does so by looking in minute detail at the visual habits of bees. Our initial period of calibration will soon come to an end and our aim is to collaborate on sensory substitution experiments combining our two different approaches.

Dr. Beau Lotto and his team use sound to create sonic landscapes where a wall of speakers create a navigate-able 3D environment. Beta Tank uses haptics to deliver images and so there is great scope for crossover in sensory substitution experiments.

We are very excited about this opportunity for collaboration and will post updates on our research and public engagement.
